Dense Cross-Connected Ensemble Convolutional Neural Networks for Enhanced Model Robustness

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

The resilience of convolutional neural networks against input variations and adversarial attacks remains a significant challenge in image recognition tasks. Motivated by the need for more robust and reliable image recognition systems, we propose the Dense Cross-Connected Ensemble Convolutional Neural Network (DCC-ECNN). This novel architecture integrates the dense connectivity principle of DenseNet with the ensemble learning strategy, incorporating intermediate cross-connections between different DenseNet paths to facilitate extensive feature sharing and integration. The DCC-ECNN architecture leverages DenseNet's efficient parameter usage and depth while benefiting from the robustness of ensemble learning, ensuring a richer and more resilient feature representation.

Decoding Event-related Potential from Ear-EEG Signals based on Ensemble Convolutional Neural Networks in Ambulatory Environment

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Recently, practical brain-computer interface is actively carried out, especially, in an ambulatory environment. However, the electroencephalography (EEG) signals are distorted by movement artifacts and electromyography signals when users are moving, which make hard to recognize human intention. In addition, as hardware issues are also challenging, ear-EEG has been developed for practical brain-computer interface and has been widely used. In this paper, we proposed ensemble-based convolutional neural networks in ambulatory environment and analyzed the visual event-related potential responses in scalp- and ear-EEG in terms of statistical analysis and brain-computer interface performance. The brain-computer interface performance deteriorated as 3-14% when walking fast at 1.6 m/s. The proposed methods showed 0.728 in average of the area under the curve. The proposed method shows robust to the ambulatory environment and imbalanced data as well.

An Ensemble Convolutional Neural Networks for Bearing Fault Diagnosis Using Multi-Sensor Data

#artificialintelligence

Multi-sensor data fusion is a feasible technique to achieve accurate and robust results in fault diagnosis of rotating machinery under complex conditions. However, the problem of information losses is always ignored during the fusion process. To solve above problem, an ensemble convolutional neural network model is proposed for bearing fault diagnosis. The framework of the proposed model contains three convolutional neural network branches: one multi-channel fusion convolutional neural network branch and two 1-D convolutional neural network branches. The former branch extracts the coupling features based on multi-sensor data and the latter two branches extract the inherent features based on single-sensor data, which can collect comprehensive fault information and reduce information losses.
